Art festival, summer reads and 4th of July…

Good news ! I will have a booth at the Tiburon Art Festival ! This year it’s on August 27/28th. I just received the acceptance letter, after submitting a piece to the jury. This year I presented “Dawn Magic #3” a long oil on canvas. I am very pleased, because I love doing that festival ! I actually had the great pleasure to be part of it every year since its creation in 2007 and every year I am really impressed by the thoughtfulness of the staff there, the level of organization and the kindness with which everybody takes care of us, artists, during the 2 days of the show.

I have been working a full lot on my large painting… not finished yet, though ! I’d love to have it with me, at the festival, we’ll see…

Last week-end Bolinas was mobbed and people enjoyed the great weather on the beach… it was indeed gorgeous around here… Some visitors actually made it to my studio and I could reconnect with people met last year…

But I am not into crowds, parades and street  affairs don’t really float my boat, though I am all for celebrating Independence as a beautiful thing… (The only thing I was sad to miss was our beloved Annie singing the Star Spangled Banner on the balcony at Smiley’s, as she does so well, every year… (she is in her 8Os…) but fortunately someone videotaped it ! There she is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=TYOZxtP6BTU ) therefore on the glorious morning of July 4th, I took my car and drove out of town to go to a much calmer place… I had a lovely lunch at Priscilla’s in Inverness, with my sweetheart, and after that I lazily spent the afternoon gardening and reading… it was very nice ! I even missed completely the fireworks that night, though I’ve been told today that it was really beautiful !

Talking of reading, I just finished “Convertible dreams” by Patricia Corrigan, and I loved it!  A compilation of columns she wrote for the St Louis Post-Dispatch, it’s full of heart, often funny, witty, easy to read, put down and take up again for more… http://www.amazon.com/Convertible-Dreams-Saturday-Morning-Musings/dp/1891442147

I actually met Patricia and felt comfortable in her company right away, she’s quite an interesting character ! Writer, journalist, whale watcher, survivor… she is clever, open minded, knowledgeable and talented, beside being nice and funny ! Check out her website: http://www.patriciacorrigan.com and her blog: http://latetothehaight.blogspot.com/ !

Now I am engrossed in a completely different style of book: “Coming Back” by  Marcia Muller… I never met Marcia, but I like her innovative detective stories, showcasing San Franciso based private eye Sharon Cone…

One of the great pleasures of summer… well written, easy read little gems that you can take with you to the terrace of the cafe with your lunch, or to bed with your dinner for a lazy evening…

Happy summer !… more later…
