On the other side…

After a busy Art Festival in Tiburon

I closed my studio for a few days and here I am in Cape Cod !

Never been here before. It’s beautiful from the sky, all the patterns in the sand, like intricate labyrinths, along the shore… I’ll try and take photos from above when we fly from here to Boston with a Cessna on the way back… Those patterns are so inspiring, abstract, if taken out of context, but so organic ! I want to paint them…

The past week has been a suite of beautiful meals, shared with people who really like good food and it will take a few weeks to shed off the extra padding I gained in the process, but it was delightful !

I had the great pleasure to go kayaking on ocean waters so calm and warm, it was like a dream, gliding over schools of tiny silver fish with the huge sky full of wispy clouds morphing above… it was just wonderful !

Yesterday I discovered the gingerbread houses in Martha’s Vineyard, a small island a hop away from here with the ferry. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martha%27s_Vineyard  Very much the tourist’s destination it was quite crowded there in the streets, but not at all on the “campground” where all the colorful little Victorian style mini mansions are situated.

IMG_3335Every one of them is decorated, crafted and made special, standing on stamp size yards which are not so manicured as to loose a  real homey feeling, their slight funkiness balancing the fabulous paint jobs of the houses like rainbows all along the narrows streets and pedestrian alleys…

In the morning before going to Martha’s vineyard we visited Alfred Glover’s studio http://www.alfredglover.com , that was cool.

We had seen his work around,it’s colorful and fun and we wanted to see more. In for a treat we had an hour of visiting with Alfred who is also a born story teller and discovered his latest creations, the walking chickens, and the chicken tree…!

Today after a week of steamy hot weather, we are having a good rain and the temperature dropped spectacularly ! It feels like fall : leaves are swirling around, their fall being a little premature due to the hurricane that passed over and dried up trees and bushes right on the spot. Fortunately there has been a lot less damage than people feared and when we arrived in the wake of Irene we rejoiced with the locals about that !…

Since it’ a day of small things and home coziness, I’m planning to make a nice batch of eggplant parmigiana for dinner, it will be the perfect touch for an end of Summer celebration… or the entering of Autumn…

More later…
