Still point and Autumn baking…

Today is one of those foggy, drippy, and most of all Autumnal days in Bolinas…

After a good spell of incredibly beautiful sunny days, signature of our Indian summer here, this feels like we stepped directly into another season, and I have been running around since returning from Cape Cod, catching up with things, refining new projects and gearing up for the fall season…

It’s been a lot of work all together between computer, photographer, clients, putting new displays up (one @ the Wells Fargo Bank in Pt Reyes, one coming up @ the Bovine Bakery also in Pt Reyes) or changing them for the season to come (@ the Coast Cafe here in Bolinas and @ the Fat Angel Bakery in Fairfax), sending new images to my webmaster, and relentlessly mulling over in my mind the paintings I want to get started on… it feels like days have flown and I did not really got to taste the pulp of them !

I needed a still day, some idle time to just be and rejoice in being…

So today, thanks to the fog, the small number of people visiting and the pile of ripe quinces in my kitchen, straight from the little tree on the corner of my patio, I found myself irresistibly drawn to do some baking ! It was great: I started by peeling and cutting a small Ton of quinces (they had filled my kitchen with their wonderful smell for the last week) and cooked them slowly with sugar and butter in 2 skillets, with a little water to start… while they cooked and caramelized slowly, I prepared a pie dough, using Spelt flour and Irish butter and I rolled it thin to cover the layer of golden quinces with it,  tucked the edges in, after what I put my 2 skillets in the oven and let my house fill up with warmth and the buttery/fruity smell of my Quince Tatin tarts… people came by (all with great sense of timing) and enjoyed the happy cozy homy feeling that had definitely taken over my studio as they looked at my artwork on the walls… Autumn is here !

If you’re in my neighborhood, swing by and sample it with me !

:o)

More later…
