A world with Octobers

Today on FaceBook I read a post that said: “I am so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.”
Well, I am too! Did you notice how beautiful and bountiful the world is around us here in Marin at this time of the year? And I know for a fact that it is like that in many other places too…

Just before Nature goes gently to sleep for winter and the rain drenched days of grayness, we are given these fireworks of bright orange, deep greens and yellows of pumpkins, squashes and persimmons, the deep reds of pomegranates, the dark purples of grapes, the soft cushiness of mushrooms spreading their musky scent at large, all of that underlined by whiffs of smoke from the first wood fires of chilly evenings. Every day, sky and water play each other off with an infinite palette of blues and peaches and golds or just cloak themselves in a heavy blanket of fog, just because… and then the world as we know it melts away for a while.

I am in love with October.

Of course I might be biased a little: it’s my month of birth. But really, it is truly a month full of wonders and happy endings, lush with hearty foods and soft sweaters, spilling over with celebrations and harvests, cinemascope sunsets and salty full moon pulling up high tides…

I love this wondrous planet every day, as you know by now, but I do love it with complete abandon in October. My painter’s eye is delighted by the perfect slant of the light on all things, by the depth of the sky, by the perfect matte black of the young calves against the tan grass of the hills… I can’t help but relishing the perfect mix of crisp air and warm sun while sitting on a bench in the afternoon between visitors at The Blissful Gallery  while birds which name I ignore make a racket in the old willow tree.

There is a softness around, a benevolence, a sense of cosmic connection, between primal prayer and sheer jubilation… surely something that talks to the grounded parts of us and reminds us of the never ending shift of things…

I am glad I live in a world where there are Octobers!

More later…

A world with Octobers...
